One of the things that Brokers know and typically don’t share with our clients are what factors make up their insurance rates. Of course, each company has their own rating factors but there are a few that are the same from company to company. Today I’m going to share with you the “age of roof” rating factor. Depending on the age of your home’s roof, you will likely either earn a discount towards the overall premium if the roof is newer, or a surcharge if its older. It makes perfect sense too, a newer roof should warrant a discount on the premium since it greatly reduces the chances of claims resulting from wind or water. However, the minority of people who install new roofs on their houses will even think of telling their agent or broker about the upgrade. Well, you should! And, if your agent or broker tells you that it won’t lower your premium, it’s probably time to look for a new insurance company…or just give me a call at 484-879-4375.
